This is considered the simplest musical form. Gīthams fall under the Abhyāsa Gānam category. Gīthams were created Purandhara Dhāsa. Gīthams have no absolutely defined divisions of pallavi, anupallavi or charanam though these may be observed in many cases. Gīthams have around 10-12 āvathanams. They do not have sangathis with each swara taking one syllable. There are 3 types of Gīthams Sanchāri or Sāmānya, Lakshana and Sūlādhi Gīthams.
