(also sollukaTTu) literally spoken-sounds, these are sometimes called jatis. They are sounds intended to imitate percussion, such as the sounds of the mridangam. Common sounds are tAm, ta ki Ta, tOm, dhIm, tatanu, tarikiTa, janu, and dhirana, among others. Sometimes they are combined with swaras like sa ri ga ma etc.
