  • Our mission includes having principles with human values and shaping artists with a broader vision in life.
  • In keeping with the above we have embarked upon projects which touch the lives of the underprivileged. There are many of them, who can ill afford even basic amenities, let alone pursue individual talents and dreams in the fine arts section.
  • To those, we lend our hand and offer teaching aid with financial assistance, as the case may require, in the fields of music and dance.
  • The kind hearted amongst you may join us in this initiative and benefit from being contributors to the growth of Indian classical performing arts.
Vazhai (Chennai/Bangalore)

Introduction

Vazhai is an NGO which was founded in early 2005 by a group of socially responsible youngsters. It strives to provide equal educational opportunities to children living in remote rural areas of Dharmapuri and Villupuram districts. Initially the team comprised of 15 Students from 3 village schools (in Dharmapuri) with 15 mentors, 25 supporters. Presently, the number has risen to a staggering 100+ students who are constantly motivated by an equal number of mentors and supporters. First Generation school going children, belonging to sixth standard and coming from an economically weak background are selected every academic year and are guided till X, after which offline support is provided, until they themselves become ready to carry over the legacy of fulfilling their responsibility to the society through Vazhai.

Board of Advisors and Finance

Able guidance is provided by our Board of Advisors, which includes eminent personalities from varied spheres.

The organisation is being funded primarily by individual donors, yearly contribution of mentors, through Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives and numerous philanthropists.

Aspects of Mentoring

“An educational system isn't worth a great deal if it teaches young people how to make a living but doesn't teach them how to make a life”.  Vazhai goes beyond the scope of books and ordinary academic material and focuses on enhancing the overall personality of a child. This is done through mentoring, wherein mentors are assigned mentees with whom they keep in constant touch through letters, phone calls, in addition to meeting them once in two months during workshops. The main objective of Vazhai is not only to help provide academic assistance but also to help the kids “achieve” education. Mentors try to groom the kids to shape them up into mature, responsible citizens, by instilling a sense of confidence in them to face the competitive world.  There is much to gain as a Mentor at Vazhai, a strong sense of fulfillment towards serving the society being primary among all others.

Academics and Life Skills

The methodology of teaching adopted by Vazhai involves interactive Activity Based Learning techniques which helps kindle the interest of young minds. This also helps the kids in understanding concepts however complex they are, with relative ease.

Equal emphasis is laid on the importance of Life skills. Workshops which focus exclusively on such skills are held frequently to enable the children to become well-rounded individuals.
