Foundation course in Adavus

Foundation course in Adavus

The uniqueness of Bharatanatyam is the special emphasis on “footwork” – even in the   midst of a composition a dancer would dance to “tha thei thei tham” with the percussionist drumming the beat away. Keeping the count of the beat with the legs adorned with anklets is central to “tha thei thei tham”. “Adavu” means basic step. Just like a combination of alphabets gives words and thereafter sentences, an Adavu is the combination of rhythmical footwork enhanced with hand gestures and beautiful body movements. Combinations of Adavus form a dance sequence.

Learning Adavus helps students develop body flexibility, stamina, and keen awareness of Tala (Rhythm). The mind gets sharp too – gets agile while controlling the limbs. It provides a strong base while performing compositions.

We, at eAmbalam, have developed a 12-month module that covers Adavu of different types. This is essential for any beginner to develop their limb movements and acquire a sense of rhythm. Fresher will immensely benefit from this course. A student at basic and intermediate level who seeks perfection can take up this course. It is a good guide for teachers too.
