Modular courses in Bharatanatyam – General

They are the part of the main course “Diploma in Bharathanatyam”. Students have the option of taking up the modular courses independently as and when they have time. It is recommended to do the course sequentially if you are a beginner student in Bharathanatyam so that you would understand the link between each modular course. Those of you who are already practicing Bharathanatyam can take up the course of your choice. So, by doing modular courses at their convenient time, student can also aim to get a Diploma certificate (Conditions apply).

Modular courses in Bharatanatyam – Adavu

Modular courses in Adavu are part of the main course “Foundation course in Adavu”. There are 18 modular courses in Adavu consisting of 60+ variations of Adavu. The duration of each of the modular courses vary from 2 weeks to 12 weeks.

Adavus are the first basic lessons that a student learns in Bharathanatyam. Adavus are the beautiful co ordination of footwork and body movements performed in different speeds. Adavus form the pillar for the structure of Bharathanatyam and hence it is of utmost importance for the students to understand the intricacies of Adavus in depth.

The 18 modular courses in Adavu consisting of 60+ variations of Adavu has introduction to the Thala (Rhythm) system in Carnatic music alongside a fitness guide explaining the Yogic postures relevant to the footwork, Bhedas (limb movement variations) and Hastha mudhras (hand gestures) and other Basic theory materials that is required to enhance the understanding of the Adavus. The students learn to sing all the Adavus in 3 different speeds set to a particular rhythmical pattern (Thala). When once the students are familiar with the footwork, they will go through the body movement analysis to co ordinate the Hand gestures (Hasthamudhra), Hands, Eyes, Head, Neck and Torso movements for each of the footwork. Students are provided with high quality Step by Step learning videos by watching which they learn and present it to the instructor once a week during one on one online class with the instructors. Audio downloads are provided to help the students in their practice.

If you are enrolling for Grade 3 of Nattuvangam course, make sure you have completed Grade 1 and Grade 2 level of Nattuvangam. Alternately, send us a video of you singing and doing Nattuvangam for Thisra Alaripu and Chathurashra Alaripu. Faculty will review and help you choose the right course.
If you are enrolling for Master classes in Abhinaya Level 2, make sure you have completed Level 1 of Master classes in Abhinaya. Alternately, send us a video of you performing a Kshetreya padam. Faculty will review and help you choose the right course.
If you want to learn any composition such as Alaripu, Jathiswaram, Shabdam, Varnam, Keerthanam, Thillana and Varnamas, please send us an email with details of your previous learning and video of your performance. Faculty will review it and suggest you the right course with all details.

Participation:

Attendance is mandatory.
If the learner is absent on any day due to any reason, it will be considered as class taken if not informed before 48 hours.
Students will have to take responsibility to practice regularly and attend the sessions well prepared.
Payment for 4 sessions is collected upfront every month.
